GolinHarris recently brought onboard the staff and clients of San Francisco-based Panache Communications, an award-winning boutique agency serving technology, Asian and Asian-related companies.

In October, GolinHarris launched a comprehensive new practice called Engage to proactively manage activism issues for its clients.

Engage offers companies and organizations the market intelligence and strategic analysis to identify key issues and their corresponding activist groups and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that may impact their business. A team of agency experts works with NGOs and activist groups to build beneficial relationships, and then develops and implements strategies that effectively respond to issues and attacks.

“As governments retreat from many corners of the public arena, NGOs around the globe are jumping into the breach,” said Fred Cook, president and CEO. “It is no longer enough for companies to simply inform activist groups about what they are doing. They must actively engage them in the process. GolinHarris’ experience on activism issues has led to the formalization of a proprietary approach to dealing with campaigns at all points of the issues spectrum.”

On four continents, GolinHarris has worked on a wide variety of issues including animal welfare, labor practices, anti-smoking and the environment.

GolinHarris Engage will be led by Scott Farrell and Mitch Head. Farrell is managing director of the agency’s Chicago office, and Head is managing director of the agency’s Atlanta office.

GolinHarris Celebrates 50 Years by Giving Back

To commemorate its 50th anniversary, GolinHarris offices around the world joined together in an agency-wide volunteer initiative. Based on chairman Al Golin’s philosophy that “doing the right thing is the right thing to do,” GH gave back to their communities during October and November by taking one business day to volunteer at a local charity or cause.

“GolinHarris is committed to the communities where we do business,” said Fred Cook, president and CEO. “Our offices have always supported a wide range of charitable organizations and encouraged employees to get involved in issues and activities that make a difference in causes that matter to them. It’s only fitting that we do something significant on the occasion of our 50th anniversary.”

Some of the local GolinHarris initiatives included:

Atlanta employees got their hands dirty, working to give a senior residence a facelift. Chicago partnered with the YMCA to spend a day giving the 212-room residential facility a much-needed paint job.

Atlanta - volunteered through the HOMES Program of Senior Citizens Services. Twenty employees went to work at a senior residence in Atlanta’s historic West End neighborhood and gave the home a facelift by painting, raking and planting.

Chicago - partnered with the YMCA to spend a day giving the 212-room residential facility and the fitness facility a much-needed paint job. In addition to 90 employees giving their time, GolinHarris donated approximately US$1,000 in painting supplies.

Dubai - teamed with All As One, a Dubai-based charity that supports child welfare projects for war-affected, orphaned children in Sierra Leone. The Dubai volunteers lent their media relations expertise to help raise awareness for the organization.

Los Angeles - worked with the City of Hermosa Beach on a beach cleanup project. About 50 employees donned protective gloves and toted garbage bags as they took to the sands to remove trash, cigarette butts and anything else that didn’t belong there.

Miami - teamed up with the Overtown Youth Center and developed a presentation workshop for students that go to school in the “project” areas of Miami. They helped them with their presentation/communications skills while coaching them on getting ready for an upcoming career day.

New York - will be publicizing the launch of Girl Scout cookie selling season in New York City. This will benefit the Girl Scout Council and the Greater New York City.

Orange County - supported the Adopt-A-Park program in the Upper Newport Bay area in Orange County. The team removed non-native plant material (such as fennel, ice plant and thistle).

Hong Kong - visited the Hong Kong Electric Company Limited (HEC) wind power station on Lamma Island with 40 students and teachers of Chan Kwok Wai Primary School. The students were all from lower-income families in Hong Kong and have limited opportunities to partake in outings such as this. Click here to read more.
