The Asia Pacific Leadership Retreat

Working together at the leadership retreat.
In September, eight GolinHarris employees together with 30 fellow IPG colleagues spent two and a half days on the island of Phuket, Thailand, for the 2005 Leadership Awards Retreat.

The Asia Pacific Leadership Awards recognize and reward selected IPG employees at all levels who have made a meaningful contribution towards the collective success of the company. The strict selection criterion involves evaluating which colleagues exemplify the ethos of leadership in their working environment. The award entrants write down their contribution according to the following categories: client leadership; market leadership; workplace leadership; and operational leadership.

The retreat involved a welcome dinner and a series of creative presentations about each brand. Presenting from GolinHarris was Kennes Young, an associate director from the Hong Kong office, who impressed the group with a short animated feature, "A day in the life of Kennes Young."

Kennes Young's short animated film featured 'A Day in the Life of Kennes Young.'
"I was hoping to bring some fun to the retreat, and the film really is a refection of how GolinHarris colleagues work diligently in all markets," said Kennes.

There were also outdoor team-building exercises and case study presentations which involved teams made up of people from different brands working together on a single project. According to Kennes, the GolinHarris team slogan at the retreat was "Work Hard and Play Hard."

"I very much enjoyed the workshops on the retreat. It was also great to put faces to the names of people I have communicated with frequently but never met before. Through the various activities and experiences we shared, we were really able to feel and understand what it means to 'collaborate,’" said Kennes.
