The management conference allowed the leaders to interact and gain a clearer view of how to drive success in 2005.
The Asia management team met in Singapore in mid-January to kick-off a year of growth in 2005.

The three-day conference reviewed the successes and challenges of 2004 and discussed the strategies necessary to drive the business in the coming year. Key members of the global leadership team, including Fred Cook, also attended.

The recurring theme throughout the conference was to drive and grow key global and regional client relationships.

In the spirit of collaboration Weber Shandwick's management team, including chief executive officer Harris Diamond and president Andy Polansky, participated in the meeting. FutureBrand, Jack Morton and Octagon also gave presentations showcasing their work and exploring avenues for stronger collaboration.

"The management conference was a great success," said Andrew Pirie, regional managing director Asia Pacific, "It gave the Asia management team opportunities to network and discuss critical issues facing the region. We all came away with a clearer view of the roadmap to success in 2005."

The First Ever China Staff Meeting, An IPG Family Reunion

Immediately following the management conference in Singapore, the Asia Pacific and global leaders traveled to Shanghai for the inaugural China all-staff meeting. This involved all employees from the mainland China offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, together with senior representatives from the greater China offices in Hong Kong and Taiwan and IPG sister agencies. Fannie Mok (GH in Hong Kong), Darren Burns and Eva Chang (GH in Taipei) and Sarah Chin (GH in Shanghai) were among the attendees at the meeting. Fred Cook was also able to attend, a clear indication of the commitment GolinHarris has to the China region.

In total, more than 100 colleagues from GolinHarris and other IPG companies attended - an indication of the rapid growth the firm is achieving in China.

The main focus of the China conference was to share the growth vision with staff and increase their understanding of the depth and breadth of IPG resources. The conference also aimed to encourage loyalty among the staff in a highly competitive market and to basically learn and have fun.

"The China meeting allowed the staff to interact and learn more about what exciting opportunities are available to grow their careers with us," said Andrew Pirie, regional managing director Asia Pacific.

Similar to the management meeting in Singapore, FutureBrand, Jack Morton and Octagon also gave presentations showcasing their work to encourage collaboration between IPG companies and to provide ideas and opportunities to grow clients.

Other agenda items included an inspirational speech by Fred Cook explaining a "Go-To-Market Strategy" emphasizing the "trust" spirit within GolinHarris; and Darren Burns demonstrating the importance of a "Winning Attitude" to produce award winning PR campaigns for our GH clients.

In line with the "learn and have fun" theme, IPG colleagues collaborated during an evening of bowling and karaoke. From the photos you can see there were many (aspiring) singers on the night!

The month of January 2005 saw GolinHarris rebrand and redefine its new identity in the city state. Fred Cook, president and chief executive officer of GolinHarris arrived in Singapore to mark the milestone. To celebrate the rebranding within Singapore, the office held a cocktail event on January 12 at the exclusive China Club for its valued clients, staff and managing directors in the region.

While savouring Chinese dim sum and sipping wine, Fred Cook met up with key clients such as Singapore Technologies Telemedia, Bank Mandiri, Center for Creative Leadership, Monsanto and Fimat Asia. Managing directors from GolinHarris in Taiwan, China and Japan also took the opportunity to network with the clients.

Tsunami Efforts Across the Region

The Boxing Day tsunami disaster left an unprecedented trail of widespread physical destruction and human tragedy across Asia including Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Maldives. GolinHarris offices across Asia joined hundreds of organisations across the continent in doing their part for the tsunami victims.

During the dinner at the Greater China meeting in Shanghai in mid January, staff held a fundraising auction where staff donated various personal items or services that were sold to the highest bidder - some of the items were intriguing to say the least! In all, about 8000RMB (US$965) was raised with all proceeds going to Red Cross.

In Singapore, a total of S$2000 (US$1200) was collected across GH, Weber Shandwick and Futurebrand and donated to the local Red Cross. GH's Singapore staff also helped out by manning the emergency hotline at the Indonesian embassy in Singapore.

In Hong Kong, GH staff also established an initiative to donate clothes and items including towels, baby clothes and bottles, shoes, clothes and utensils. These items were donated to Crossroads International, who then sent all contributions to Sri Lanka.

In addition, Fred Cook instituted a call to action encouraging GH offices across the world to assist through personal donations or collection of items for donation to international relief agencies.
