For the love of PR, Diane Wu launches two new books.

She is a fitness fanatic and a collector of gourmet food books. She is the dual managing director of three offices across two brands in two different countries and she’s passionate about her work. She’s a woman on a mission. Since 2000, she’s written at least one book every year and most recently launched two books that look set to achieve the same, if not greater success, as the others.

The two books, E
ssentials of Media Relations and A way to (become an) Excellent PR Professional have been written to provide counsel to PR consultants who have either just started in the industry of who have been in the industry a while and need a little guidance to get back on track. All of her staff have received a copy of the books because Wu’s busy schedule means she can’t be everywhere all the time. “I can teach them on and off, but if I’m not there, the books can tell them what I’d want to say!”

Originally written for the Taiwan market in Mandarin and launched in 2000, Wu has recently re-written the content so it is localised for the Greater China market and has also translated it to Simplified Chinese. When asked whether it would be translated to English, Diane replies “Oh maybe - we’ll just see how successful these two are…”

Diane’s books cover all aspects of public relations from an introduction to working in a PR firm, to how to organise an event, to advice on media liaising, melded with tips and case studies about effective public relations. Her previous books including PR Republic and Dare to Dream also focus on the PR industry and the various experiences she’s had throughout her career.

As it stands, many of the PR related text books available on the market tend to be dry and academically focused. Diane’s books are therefore used frequently not just by her employees but by other PR firms and learning institutions because they discuss real life situations making it easier for the reader to relate.

Due to this exposure, she is presented with many opportunities to speak about her recommendations and work in the field. For the past nine years she has been a frequent speaker at the top universities and industry associations within Taiwan and now Shanghai. Diane welcomes this activity, as she feels that this is the best way to secure the best talent for her firm. One example of this is long time GolinHarris employee Victor Chang, a past student of Cheng Chi University in Taiwan. Victor, one of the top PR graduates in his year, heard Diane speak at one of his lectures and consequently approached the firm for employment upon completion of his degree. Last year he was honoured as the Young Consultant of the Year in the Asia Pacific PR Awards proving that Diane’s method for attracting the top talent works. “It takes up a lot of my time, but it is worth it in the end because it means I get the best of the best”, says Diane.

And the next project for this ambitious individual? Diane intends to find out why many CEOs of large local corporations in China aren’t confident that a PR agency, such as GolinHarris, is capable of undertaking their public relations programs. Diane will survey 99 of the top CEO’s in China to discover why this is and in turn prove the competence of her agency.

Best of luck Diane!
